If you're a millennial, chances are you've heard the term "mindfulness" thrown around a lot. But what is mindfulness, and why should you care?
Simply put, mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment. That means turning off your phone, putting down your work, and taking a minute to focus on your breath and your thoughts.
1. Set aside some time each day to practice mindfulness. It doesn't have to be much—even 5 or 10 minutes will do. Just find a time that works for you and stick to it.
2. Find a comfortable place to sit or lie down. Once you're comfortable, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
3. Focus on your breath as it moves in and out of your body. Don't try to control your breath—just let it flow naturally.
4. When your mind wanders (and it will), simply bring your attention back to your breath.
5. Continue focusing on your breath for the duration of your practice session. When you're finished, take a few deep breaths and slowly open your eyes.
