Day 10: Signs of Fat-Adaptation – Steady Energy, Fewer Cravings

I’m not sure I can declare myself fully “fat-adapted” yet, but at day 10 I’m definitely noticing some changes that make me think I’m on my way. The biggest difference? My energy feels steadier throughout the day. I used to need a mid-morning snack and a 3 pm pick-me-up just to function. Now, I can go from breakfast to lunch (and sometimes lunch to dinner) without that desperate “feed me now” feeling. My blood sugar feels more stable, and as a result my mood is more even-keeled too.

Another sign: my cravings have dialed way down. Just last night, I worked straight through dinner by accident – something I never would’ve done before because I’d be too hangry to concentrate. I eventually ate, of course, but it amazed me that I wasn’t lightheaded or irritable. That tells me my body is learning to tap into my stored fat for fuel between meals, which is exactly the goal. Experts say that by around the end of week 2 of low-carb eating, hunger and cravings should dramatically diminish while energy increases (What You Should Know About Keto-Adaptation). I’m already seeing the start of that.

Mentally, I feel sharper in the mornings now. It’s like my brain isn’t in a fog from a carb-heavy breakfast; instead I feel clear and focused until lunchtime. I’ve also noticed I wake up feeling a bit more refreshed – perhaps because my blood sugar isn’t crashing overnight.

I won’t lie, the first few days of cutting carbs were rough (hello, headache and fatigue). But pushing through that “carb withdrawal” phase was worth it. Each day now, I feel a little more energetic and in control of my appetite. If this is what fat-adaptation feels like coming on, I am 100% here for it! I’m excited to hit the fully fat-adapted stride where, as Dr. Cate promises, I’ll have abundant energy and less hunger. I have a feeling the best is yet to come.
